Getting a teaching credential can be done online. There are many reasons why someone would choose getting their credential online. Besides the convenience, many people are changing careers and find that they need to keep their current job while going to school. Getting a credential over the internet allows one to go to work during the day and focus on the courses whenever is convenient. (usually at night or on the weekends) Other reasons why someone would pursue a teaching credential online is because of family obligations and travel restrictions.
There are many offerings for getting a credential through the internet. One such program is called CalStateTEACH. The curriculum is delivered online. Students use print, CD-ROMs, and the web to learn. Students also have “class discussions” via the internet.
They offer two types of programs - student teaching and intern program. In the student teaching option, students conduct fieldwork in terms one and two. In terms three and four, the student teaching is conducted with local school districts.
The other option is the employed teacher option. This route is for someone already currently teaching in California in a multiple subject class and needs a credential. The other qualification is if a person is expecting to be employed in a multiple subject classroom in time for the start of this program.
