10 Important Questions That Need to be Answered Concerning Degree and Diploma Mills

Diploma mills and degree mills are essentially illegal schools that sell bogus, worthless, printed paper. There are several reasons why someone would want to avoid getting an “education” from these schools. Most important, is that an employer would most likely NOT acknowledge a degree or certificate from one of these institutions. Also, if a student wishes to transfer or go to graduate school, an institution would most likely NOT acknowledge a degree or certificate from a degree/diploma mill.
Some important questions a student should ask/consider to determine if a school is a degree or diploma mill include:
1) Does the “school” have a similar name to well known colleges and universities?
2) Does the “school” fail to give a physical location rather than a PO Box?
3) Is there a list of faculty and their qualifications?
4) Can the degree be purchased?
5) Is the “school” accredited from a questionable accrediting organization?
6) Does the “school” claim to be accredited even though there is no evidence of being accredited?
7) Is there a very short period of time before a student can earn a degree or certificate?
8) Are there very few requirements to graduate?
9) Are there very few assignment requirements to earn credits?
10) Does the “school” make claims in advertisements in which there is little evidence to support these ads?
