There are many careers in technology, engineering, finance, health care, and many more that do not know how to write.  There is a need for someone to create training manuals, marketing publications, white papers, online copy, and anything else that requires the written word.  The technical writer is the person that does most of these writing projects.

The standard progression for becoming a technical writer is to get a bachelor’s degree in journalism or communication.  An English degree with a concentration in technical writing is also a popular route.  Classes can be taken in technical documentation, publication design, and graphics.  The good news is that most of the aforementioned can be taken via classes online.

Technical writers can earn a good living with a 2007 median annual earning of $62, 800.
